Fair Trade for a better quality of life

"Fairtrade" mark aims to create fairness to all involved in the production of products, from workers, consumers, distributors and manufacturers. While distributors and manufacturers gain profits, consumers are offered with fairly-priced good-quality products and workers are promised good work environment without any discrimination.

By FTO supported the formation of a group of pineapple farmers in Samroiyod district of Prachuabkhirikhan province. The objective was to encourage farmers to develop themselves and in future be self-reliant.The group was registered under the name. "Visahakit Pineapple Fairtrade Cooperative Group"

Samroiyod Corporation is one of the most Thai companies who developed ethical sourcing guidelines that help us purchase pineapple that is responsibly grown and ethically traded. We began purchasing Fairtrade pineapple in 2007, the company's produce has already won access to some key European markets. We also produces a variety of dehydrated fruits, tropical fruit cocktail, and PJC. It has developed a successful method of packing pineapple in pouch bags, which it exports to the US. Other fruits include papaya, Mango, coconut, guava, banana, ginger, rambutan, and aloe vera. Its dehydrated tropical fruits are well-received in regional markets around the world. Salted guava is very popular in Malaysia, Japan and other Asian destinations, and in the Russian market, consumers enjoy dehydrated pineapple core dyed in bright shades of green, red, yellow and orange.

Since then we’ve paid Fairtrade premiums (on top of the purchase price of green pineapple), which are used by producer organizations for social and economic investments at the community and organizational level and that we sure if consumers and, in particular buyers express a greater interest in sustainable, ethical and equitable products, Samroiyod could well find the demand comes into its hands.
